Gage repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R) is the process used to evaluate a gauging instrument's accuracy. This is done by ensuring its measurements are not only repeatable, but also reproducible.
A series of measurements is taken to certify that the output is the same value as the input.
Then, the same measurements are obtained under the same exact operating conditions over a set duration of time.
Measurement system variation can be characterized by location (stability, bias, linearity), as well as width or spread (repeatability and reproducibility).
Gage RR & Gage R Technique
This technique can be applied in most manufacturing measurement systems to:
Judge new measuring equipment
Compare measuring devices
Improve instruments
Compare equipment before and after repair
Calculate process variation and acceptability level for a production process
To measure if training is needed on how to use the instruments.
